The 2008 Mets of New York played their last season at Shea Stadium and were on their way to the playoffs but fell off towards the end of the season losing 10 of their last 17 games but managed to squeak into the playoffs with a Wild Card birth. The Mets were then eliminated for the 2nd straight season, by the Florida Marlins and played the final game at Shea Stadium on September 28, 2008.
The Mets seem to have their bases covered, literally. With Delgado manning First Base, the team is hoping he will get off to a great start and hit at least 30 HR’s. Second base is a different story with Castillo. His skills are average enough to allow him to man the position with Cora backing him up.
The franchise feels it has third base secured with David Wright and are looking for him to get in the 30-35 HR range. The team is also satisfied with the situation at shortstop with Jose Reyes manning the position. The Catcher position will split time between Schneider and Castro. The pitching situation seems solid with Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, Garcia, Redding, Perez, Niese and Parnell.
The Mets are currently sitting in 4th place in the NL East. Be sure to get your tickets and cheer on your Mets to the Fall Classic.
The New York Mets finished in 4th place in the NL East for the second consecutive season posting a 79-83 record. At the end of the season, Manager Jerry Manuel and General Manager Omar Minaya were fired. In the running for the manager position are Terry Collins, Bob Melvin, Wally Backman and Chip Hale.
Sandy Alderson was hired on as the General Manager on October 29, 2010.
With the opening of Citi Field this season, the franchise had hoped to get into the playoffs but have reason to be optimistic about the 2011 season. So make sure to get out and support your New York Mets in their quest to return to the 2011 Fall Classic.
