Mets finally squeeze one out against Rockies

Flushing, NY 11368

The weekend did not go as expected for the New York Mets as they battled the Colorado Rockies in a four game home series, that is, until last night when they finally got over the hump and defeated the Rockies 6-4.

“You never like to be staring at the barrel of a possible four-game sweep at home, under any circumstances,” Neil Walker said. “Our pitchers have been throwing the ball pretty well, and obviously we haven’t been great in certain situations offensively. We know that if we keep giving ourselves opportunities, we’re going to come through.”

The Mets will begin a series tonight at 6:10 against their in-state rival New York Yankees.  Two games will be played here then the next two at Yankee Stadium.  Tickets are still available so be sure to grab yours and get out and cheer on your New York Mets!

Mets take game one against Cubs

NLCS Rematch heating up

The Chicago Cubs (51-27, 1st NL Central) came into Flushing riding a two game streak but came up against a New York Mets(41-37, 2nd NL East) squad looking to take things to the next level. After four straight losses to the Nationals the 4-3 win against the division leading Cubs was a welcome site.

“It sure came at the right time,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “To come back against that team, first game of this 11-game homestand, I think it’s huge for us. It lifted the spirits of every guy in there.”

Game two tonight will feature Jacob deGrom (3-4, 2.67 ERA) going up against Jason Hammel (7-4, 2.58 ERA).  Hammel is 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in five career starts against the Mets.  The last time deGrom took the mound he was most effective tossing eight shutout innings against the Braves.  Hammel has not pitched at Citi Field since April 2011.

Mets sneak by Royals

Bortolo Colon took the mound to kick off the first game of a two game series against the Kansas City Royals and just four pitches in to Whit Merrifield, he was forced to leave after trying to catch Merrifield’s hit off his 97 MPH fastball.  It ended up bouncing off his glove and ricocheting  off his throwing (right) hand.  Enter reliever Hansel Robles.

“The first thought that popped into my head was, ‘God, please don’t let this be a broken thumb,'” Colon said. “I had never been hit there before.”

X-rays proved negative and Robles stood tall for three and one half innings, giving up only one run.  He would give way to four other relievers in the 2-1 victory.

The Mets and Royals meet in the rubber game today at noon.  Noah Snydergaard get the start for the Mets going up against the Royal’s Danny Duffy.  Tickets are still available so be sure to get out and support your New York Mets today!!

Mets drop final game against Marlins

After taking games one and two on Friday and Saturday, the NY Mets ran into Jose Fernandez who matched his career high 14 strikeouts over seven innings Sunday afternoon helping the Marlins squeeze out a 1-0 win.

“I’m trying more to just worry about a pitch at a time and not think of who I’m pitching against,” Fernandez said. “Obviously, with all due respect, (Mets pitcher Matt) Harvey was throwing the ball great. It’s fun to see him out there, throwing the ball hard, making good pitches. We came out on top today, and I’m really happy about it. I’m just excited, happy that we got a win.”

Harvey pitched a great game as noted by Fernandez with Matt extending his scoreless innings streak to 12 after J.T. Realmuto blasted home the games only run in the fifth inning.

“I think it’s going to ease Matt’s mind most of all, and that’s the one that counts,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “He felt good about what he did today, how he got through it. He kept the damage down and pitched great. It was one of those games, a great pitching matchup head-to-head. That’s exactly what you’d expect, a 1-0 game.”

The Mets continue their road swing with a three game stand against the Pirates then another against the Milwaukee Brewers.  The Mets return to the confines of Citi Field to take on the Pirates, the Braves and the Royals before heading back out on the road.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and help cheer on your New York Mets when they return home!

Mets look to get back to ALCS and beyond

The New York Mets took the eventual World Series Champion Kansas City Royals to six games before falling to them.  No one predicted such a rise from a club  that was supposed to be heading nowhere in the fall of 2014.  Then Yeonis Cespedes happened to the club.  Many thought that he would not return to the club, but he inked a one year deal that will see him in a Mets uniform again this season.

The Mets are boasting a stellar rotation that includes  David Wright, Zach Wheeler, and Matt Harvey plus the team is at least eight deep and they have a little left over in the purse to pursue anyone they fell may give the roster and team a boost, if needed.

Upcoming Spring games include the Marlins, The Nationals and Cardinals.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and help cheer on your New York Mets!!

Mets on a six game losing streak

With two games left in the current series against the Milwaukee Brewers, the New York Mets are looking to turn around a losing streak that goes back to June 17th.  The only real bright spot being an 11-game winning streak in April.  Now fans are calling for Terry Collins, who is in his last contract year, to be fired.  For his part, Terry has worked with what the franchise has given him all the way down the line.

“We’ve had everybody from Triple-A here,” Collins said. “I don’t know what you want me to tell you. We have done everything we can, we brought up all those guys that were swinging the bats good.

Last night, the Mets left fielder, Michael Cuddyer’s coughed up an unforced error giving the Brewers the go-ahead run in a 3-2 loss.

“Nothing’s going our way right now,” Cuddyer said. “You compound that with trying to do everything right and trying so hard to come through in certain situations, it’s not a good recipe. And it hasn’t been a good recipe especially on this road trip.”

Sox sink Mets 6-3

The game started off well for pitcher Jonathan Niese, who sat eight straight batters.  Then things began to get away from him as he sputtered out.  By the time he was replaced 52 pitches later by Tyler Pill, he had bases loaded for the young prospect Pill.

“The arm felt great,” Niese said. “I kind of ran out of gas there at the end and lost command, but it was good to get that 50 pitches, get the workload in. I haven’t thrown that many pitches in a while, so it’s building up. I’m feeling better and better each outing.”

Mets avoid sweep in St. Louis

The New York Mets have fallen into last place in the NL East but the team managed to avoid a sweep by the St. Louis Cardinals during a three game home stand in St. Louis after losing the first two by an 11-4 margin.

There’s many sleepless nights,” David Wright said after hitting a homer and a double in game three. “I won’t lie and say it’s easy or it doesn’t bother me. I always put a lot of pressure on myself. I know that hitting in the middle of this lineup, a lot of the burden falls on me.”
